Adveez and Semtech Track In-Motion Assets at Global Airports
Adveez integrates LoRa-based sensors to reduce operation costs and increase efficiencies
CAMARILLO, Calif., Sept. 13, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq:SMTC), a leading supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms, announced that Adveez, manufacturer of data capture and hands-free access control hardware and software, has adopted Semtech's LoRa® devices and wireless RF technology (LoRa Technology) in its asset tracking platform for airports.
Adveez leverages LoRa Technology to assist airports globally to reduce the costs of maintaining in-motion ground equipment including tractors and pallets. LoRa-enabled sensors capture usage and location data from equipment and transmit it wirelessly to gateways. The data alerts the airlines to perform maintenance based on actual usage, eliminates the need to collect usage data manually and reduces expensive repair costs. The Adveez asset tracking platform is currently used by major airlines at airports across Europe and North America.
"Our LoRa-based tracking module is one of the first customer implementations of Semtech's LoRa Technology," said Karim Ben Dhia, CEO at Adveez "With the rapid adoption of LoRa Technology and the LoRaWAN open
specification, our asset tracking solution is helping our customers closely monitor their valuable assets as they grow their business."
"Semtech's LoRa Technology offers airports an economical way to provide reliable, flexible tracking in order to monitor in-motion assets," said Mike Wong, Vice President of Marketing for Semtech's Wireless and Sensing Products Group. "LoRa Technology's unique capabilities - long-range, low-power and easy to deploy - is the ideal IoT platform of choice for a variety of vertical markets, including supply chain and logistics."
Key Features of LoRa Technology:
- Long Range: A single base station using LoRa Technology enables deep penetration capability for dense urban environments and indoor coverage while also providing the ability to connect to sensors
more than 15-30 miles away in rural areas.
- Low Power: The LoRaWAN protocol was developed specifically for low power and enables unprecedented battery lifetime of up to 20 years depending on the application.
- Geolocation: Enables tracking applications without GPS or additional power consumption.
- Low Cost: LoRa Technology reduces up front infrastructure investments and operating costs, as well as end-node sensor costs.
- Open Standard: LoRaWAN, a Low-Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) specification, ensures interoperability among applications, IoT solution providers and telecom operators to speed adoption and deployment.
